How can a nominee start an LIC death claim?
Short answer:Contact the LIC branch servicing the policy, inform it of the death and ask for the current claim forms and document checklist. The branch must confirm which requirements apply to the policy and claimant.
Identify the policy and the claimant's position
Locate the policy number, policy document, servicing branch and any nomination or assignment information. Check whether the person making the claim is a recorded nominee, an assignee or another claimant. An entry in Moksha Sutra is not proof of LIC's recorded nomination.
If the policy document is missing, tell the branch rather than delaying contact or assuming that the claim is impossible. LIC has separate guidance for lost documents.
Ask LIC for the applicable checklist
LIC's official pages list death-claim requirements, but additional papers may be needed depending on the policy status and circumstances. Use the current forms supplied by LIC.
- Claim form and claimant statement as requested by LIC.
- Death certificate or certified death-register extract as required.
- Original policy document and assignment deeds, if applicable.
- Proof of age if age was not admitted, where requested.
- Claimant identification, payment details and any evidence of title required for the case.
- Additional medical or other evidence if LIC asks for it.
Keep the submission and follow-up organised
Submit through LIC's official channel and retain an acknowledgement, copies and a reference number. Ask the branch how to follow up and how to resolve a missing-document request.
A nominee's ability to submit a claim does not settle every inheritance question. Obtain legal advice where entitlement is disputed. Moksha Sutra can keep the policy and claim notes together, but does not file the claim or guarantee approval or a payment date.

Can I use a checklist from another insurer?
Use LIC's instructions for an LIC policy. Another insurer's forms or document checklist may not meet LIC's requirements.
